Question Asked: This vine is growing in my backyard near a densely forested area that has a creek running through it. Also included are pictures from the side yard and right outside my house. Neither my kids nor I have had any skin disturbances from contact with the plants, but I am concerned about others who may have a different reaction. Are these plants Poison Ivy?
Answer: Hi Nancy -
In the first picture we can clearly see small bristles along the stem of the plant. This is probably wild red raspberry. Whenever you find a plant with thorns or bristles, it's not poison ivy but one of the "brambles" like blackberry, raspberry, dewberry, etc.
In the second picture, I can't make out enough of the plant to give you a positive id but I can say it's not poison ivy either. The middle leaflet is not on a longer stalk and the stem is fleshy in appearance. Also the leaflets are not egg-shaped which poison ivy leaflets are.
In the third picture, I'm not sure what the plant is without seeing more of it. I can say with surety though that this is not poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac. |
