So should we take cold or hot showers? Reading all of this I have been getting very mixed reviews. I have only had my poisen oak for 3 days and I feel like I'm being torchured! Its horrible!
I have some remedies that my grandmother has told me though.
1. Ivarest- I got mine at Walmart and it helps keep the itching away somewhat. It cools the area and keeps it from itching for 2-3 hours.
2. Salt bath- I have found this to be the very BEST! If you have it on your legs/feet/hands then fix up a salt bath. Make sure to but A LOT of salt. Put the infected area in the water and scratch to your hearts desire! The salt dries up the bumps and draws the poison out. For even better results wet your skin, pour salt directly onto the rash/bumps and scratch. It feels so good to scratch them and keeps the itching away for a long time! Do NOT use salt water and scratch your face or other sensitive areas of your skin because it may cause scarring. (It doesnt scar your legs though,my grandma said she did it and it heals right up because your skin is thicker there.) For your face, just wipe some really salty water on the invected area to help dry it out.
