I am experiencing the very same thing- hives after poison ivy- actual contact was sumac. I had a pretty bad case on my arms and on day 10 or so the blisters began to dry up and show signs of healing. However, hives began to develop in the the same areas and then spreading to my abdomen ankles, chest and legs. The hives on my arms is one huge red patch. While my doctor did prescribe Prednisone during the poison sumac allergic reaction I chose NOT to take it. The only thing I did take every 4-6 hours for several days was Benadryl. I only treated the original rash with regular applications of calamine, Caladryl and pure aloe vera gel along with cool wet compresses. I also did really hot water (creates a crazy tingle in the rash area) in the shower followed by cold water and this would stop the itching for hours. This does NOT work as well with the hives. I am now in the 6th day of hives- some have faded a bit but others have appeared and I am only able to get a few hours of sleep at night. I am taking, as usual a multi vitamin and eating really healthy but my immune system is on a path of it's very own. I, too, would like to know how long, in general, these post poison ivy/oak/sumac hives have lasted for everyone else? I have started taking the Benadryl again and seems to be providing some relief but I don't really like suppressing symptoms but since histamine seems to the problem it's worth a shot. I feel for everyone on this forum- this situation is definitely cramping my sty;e!!!
