I just moved to a 20 acre property that is full of poison oak. (Western Oregon). I grew up with poison oak & never got it, but I have now been thoroughly initiated.
I have a dog & a cat who go outside frequently, and I don't think it's realistic to bathe them both every time they come in & out. The other discussions I've seen on this topic seem to involve occasional exposure, but in my case it's constant exposure.
The cat is doing a wonderful job of controlling the rodent population, so we want him to be an indoor/outdoor cat, but I'm pretty sure he's a source of the problem. Our dog doesn't wander as far afield, but I'm sure she gets into it daily as well.
Can I simply wipe them down with tecnu or some similar product? And should I wear gloves when I do so? And then how do I take the gloves off & put them back on the next time?
I'm also ending up with A LOT of laundry - washing everything I wear when I go work outside (which is daily), I'm keeping sheets over the bed & furniture to avoid having the cat spread the urishol oil, and that adds even more to the laundry. |
