I have never seen Poison Oak with thorns, but there is a plant with thorns that looks almost just like poison oak - blackberry. Maybe you just have "good eats". I hope so.
Blackberry stems are also kind of hairy. You know the saying: "Leaves of three, let the be. If it's hairy, it might be a berry."
