Who were you talking to -- the ghost of a doctor from the 1700's?

The rash is a result of exposure to urushiol which is in the plant. Development of the rash can take anywhere from 4 to 48 hours and it may develop in different parts of the exposed areas at different times, which sometimes leads people to believe they're spreading it by scratching, which is not what is happening.

There is no additional urushiol in the blister. Breaking it will not spread the rash.
