The oil in Oak, Ivy, and Sumac is called Urushiol.
It is the juice/sap like substance that causes the rash.

Since they all produce the same type oil, it could be caused by any of the three.

But the popular belief is that the stringy type is caused by Poison OAK. Though this is not true.
