I was hiking on the hills at Stinson Beach, CA on June 7th 2009 and got off the beaten path unfortunately. I got a sever blister patch on my forearm I presume from grabbing a Poison Oak bush as our footing got lose and we started were sliding down this animal trail. Today is June 21st and I still have it exactly 2 weeks later.
I tried Iva Dry Super, which I didn't notice it said not to use on blisters, so I stopped. It seemed to really blister bad after that. Then Ivarest which didn't seem to help the oozing, but it relieved the itch. It didn't itch too bad where the blisters were oozing but where the tiny bumps were around the big blisters. My arm also swelled initially. The doctor prescribed Methylprednisolone on June 15th 1 week after exposure, which you take 6 the first day and less pills every day for 5 days. I also rubbed Tecnu on my arms and a few spots on my leg, not sure if it helped. It seemed like I kept getting new bumps so I stopped using Tecnu. I tried the 10 minute hot bath today which seemed to help the itch. It also seems to be drying out the big blister patch. I've got to try the banana peel and see if that works. Has anyone replied as to how long it took to finally get rid of this stuff. 4 of us went hiking and 2 of us got the funk. Which I've read 50% of people are allergic. Why me? I never got it as a kid. As an adult, 19 years ago, I moved to California and hiked in the Berkley Hills and got sever blisters on my arms. From then on I get it once a year in Indiana from Poison Ivy, but not as sever as California, so I think it must be Poison Oak that is the worst.
