Re: Blisters, oozing, and trying to wear pants|
To answer your question, gauze with medical tape is good to protect the blisters and oozing area while preventing the oozing from running down your leg or soaking into your pants. Gauze is good because it still breaths. Depending on how much oozing you have, you should change the gauze dressings 2-3 times per day. This should be acceptable while you're at work and wearing pants. If you're worried about drying it out, that can be done when not at work. I've been doing this and I'm on day 13 (since exposure) now.
As far as draining the blisters, I've heard conflicting info. Certainly draining them opens you up to infection, so dressing with clean gauze frequently can help prevent infection if you do drain them. I think it comes down to size of the blisters. If they're large enough to be uncomfortable or cause problems, it's probably good to drain them. Smaller blisters are probably best left alone. Just make sure you take a sterile approach to draining them because the only way to 100% prevent an infection is to leave the blisters intact. |
