I have heard that poison ivy does not recur but in my experience I would say it does. I had a large, swollen, inflamed, oozing mass from primary contact with a poison ivy leaf in the summer and saw the Dr. for it. After it was gone, it came back in the same spot. but not as severe, in the winter, similar to secondary contact as from clothing or petting the dog. For me, secondary contact is not as severe as direct contact with the plant. With primary contact I get red, blistering and oozing followed by whole body reaction, swollen eyes and a trip to Dr. for a shot or two, and some prednisone. There was a time when there was no treatment so prednisone is better than nothing, in which case, the whole spring, summer and fall was spent blistered and oozing. |
