systemic poison ivy

I recently had poison ivy.. given Prednisone, it cleared up... 1 week later I broke out in a rash.. here there and every where.. very itchy and similar to a PI attack...My DR. mentioned a "systemic reaction".... where the rash evolves not from the plant, but my system??? Any input..
