What is happening is that you are coming in contact with the oil from the plant over and over again. The rash will not spread by scratching. The oil can stay on clothing and tools for up to a year!! Also if you have a dog, the oil can stay on their fur and get back on your skin when you touch them. Make sure that you wash your clothes in the hottest water they will tolerate with a strong detergent. A great product on the market is Tecnu. Use it to remove the oil from your skin and clothing and treat your rash with an anti-itch product like a hydrocortisone. You can use Tecnu on your pets too..
