Hi there- You can definitely get poison ivy in the winter. i live in Mystic CT, right in the heart of southeastern New England, and I am sitting here with a full blown case of it on my face, neck and forearms from chopping down Oriental Bittersweet vines on Tuesday, 1-24-06. I was in a wooded adjacent lot to our property trying to cut as many bittersweet away from the big trees as I could in 3 hours. It is the easiest time of the year to cut them out, because everything is "dead". I must have come across some poison ivy vines, and I was wearing gloves, a hooded sweatshirt, and 2 layers each on top and bottom, So basically only my face was showing. It was 40 degrees, fairly mild for winter. I do remember wiping my face with my gloved hands. And by Wednesday, I had a swath of Posion ivy running all along my chin and neck, and a few bumps on my forearms. By Thursday morning, I had it on my eyelids, (not swollen shut thankfully), cheeks--oh yeah- feeling good! and itchy--off to the medicine cabinet...
