Hello Denise, My heart goes out to you and your myriad of problems. My son has scoliosis too (38% curvature) but thank the Lord he is not paralyzed. May God bless you both. I have some ideas for you but would like to explore this with further research. I have not been here in a while--- I have been very busy for the past week or so and will be for a few more weeks.
In the meantime I will pray for you and your son, and please pray for yourselves also. It is the will of God that everyone be saved and healthy. I bear witness to this as I had a miracle healing for myself back in 2000.
From what you have told me, it is my hunch that you could be still suffering from complications due to the initial mono outbreak (which mononucleosis is CAUSED by the Epstein-Barr virus), or EBV for short. EBV is a member of the herpesvirus family, and science says over 95% of adults over 20 have it, but show no symptoms. You could CFS too (chronic fatigue syndrome which is thought to be caused by EBV). Lupus might be a possibility, as there are varying degrees of this disease and it is difficult to diagnose. Just keep in mind I am not a doctor and am only offering ideas as to what could be going on.
I knew a woman who was the mother of one of my son's friends who has EBV & CFS. Her problems sounded just like yours, and she had the herpesvirus. If she overexerted just a bit she would get very sick, break out in skin rashes and cold sores, etc. She had deep dark circles under her eyes even though she slept most of the time. I felt very sorry for her because other Mom's would tell me they thought it was all in her head, or that she was just lazy, etc. and I KNEW she was legitimately sick. I would always stand up in her defense. This lady tried so many natural therapys trying to get well, even vitamin IV's. She moved last year but as far as I know none of them worked. I did know another lady, a teacher my son had, who got rid of her CFS (virus) by taking INTERFERON treatments.
On rare ocassion people have complications from a bout with Mono. These can include blood disorders leading to lowered numbers of red and white blood cells because of decreased production of these cells by the bone marrow, or destruction of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia). Blood tests for EBV usually shows an increase in the overall number of white blood cells. Blood can also be examined under a microscope to determine whether there is an increased number of white blood cells called lympocytes. These white blood cells help fight viral infections, and an increased number of "atypical" lymphocytes usually indicates current infection with mononucleosis, or in your case, a response to latent viral uprisings.
Levaquin is an antibiotic used to treat pneumonia and other bacterial infections. An antibiotic will do nothing to treat a virus. What type of bacterial infection did your doctor say you had when you took it?
It could be that your lymph system, spleen, adrenals, and/or liver need extra help in trying to regain your health. When you are already in a compromised state being too active puts more stress on your body. I know that a safe exercise for all ages that flushes out your lymph is rebounding ( gentle bouncing on a mini trampoline). I will get back with you as soon as I research this thoroughly as to any other ideas & supplements you could try. I hope you feel better soon.
Just a thought, perhaps you could look into getting one of those bed mounted lifts for your son. In your circumstances I would think the cost would be covered by medicare, social services, or his current insurance plan. Heavy lifting is a no-no for someone with EBV or CFS. It is very hard to pick up and transfer someone that is paralyzed and you can do permanent damage to yourself, and then what would your son do without his sweet Mom to take care of him?
