Hello again Jessie. Yes, with all the stress and such going on in your life, you could have hives. It's funny that before I visited this site tonight, I was reading a portion of Jane Pauley's book online, and she suffered from hives before she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her doctor had put her on strong steroids that worked for a while, and then backfired. She wound up in an ER because her throat closed up while on the second round of steroids. Yet her reaction to the steroids (she had huge mood swings), and some anti-depressant medication, helped the doctor's unmask her real problem. That was very interesting to learn.
I too suffer with bouts of hives during emotional stress. I would get them occasionally when I was nervous, but never too severe, just one or two here and there. Once I got an extreme case (15 yrs. ago). When I was a new mother (and had been married a little more than a year) I went through a very stressful time from having a new baby who had colic and cried for hours non-stop everyday, a very sick husband with late stage cancer, and not enough money to pay the thousands of dollars of medical bills piling up month after month from his chemotherapy and the pediatrician. I developed a very large mass of hives on my neck, chest, and upper arms, and they did NOT go away for about 5 months. I knew it was all worry induced, but it was still very uncomfortable, itchy, and ugly. I used Noxzema to quell the itch and redness, and basically when my problems let up, they went away. It was a tough time in my life, and you are experiencing a lot of stress too. When I gained a little control back to my life, my skin finally stopped breaking out in hives every day. I will mention that you need to take time to relax and make sure you are getting the proper sleep and nutrition too.
I hope you figure out your problem soon. I am very sorry about your loss- I totally understand how you feel, I have been there. Best of luck to you, Debbie |
