Hi Brian. PI has yellowish to white flowers, not pink. They turn into whitish berries that have thin stripes (looking like a peeled segmented orange.) I would need more info to try to identify this vine bit it sounds like it may be Coral Vine or Sweet Pea from what you said because of the tiny pink flowers. They can grow in sand and near the seashore. It may even be a bleeding heart vine. You can do an image search on Google and see if this is what it could be. Also, I don't know your growing zone number in N.C. but I think it would be warm enough to have these types of vines growing as one is considered tropical. Whatever it is, it is not PI. Post a pic here or send it to me, and I can probably tell you what it is. [email protected]
