I am a 17 year firefighter for our volunteer fire dept. I have been dodging the poison oak bullet until yesterday. I have gotten multiple cases of skin rashes from contacting poison oak from our fire equipment, but I was on a training burn yesterday that had poison oak hidden in some brush. This is my first ever exposure to smoke containing poison oak. I was in the cab of the engine when I discovered this, and had been breathing for about 20 minutes the smoke thru the ventilation system. My eyes watered and my nose was plugged from what made its way in.When I realized what was burning,I was able to leave the fire ground. It has now been about 20 hours since that exposure, and I am wondering if any one has recieved or didn't recieve a reaction in a similar situation. I am hoping that the filters from the trucks ventilation system filtered out the oaks oil....no reaction yet,but to say the least I am freaked.... |
