First of all, it doesn't matter if the questions have been asked before, you deserve answers. Yes, it can and probably will spread, and it will probably last about a month and sometimes drive you to the point of insanity with the itching and burning. There are products that help, you may have to try several of them before finding one that brings relief. I also found that being in the heat made mine worse, although I've read posts of people who get relief from using a hot blow dryer. Even showers were uncomfortable, I couldn't wait to get out, and I normally take long showers. I stayed inside under the AC as much as possible, moving around as little as necessary. Some people find relief with cortisone pills and/or shots, I am sensitive to medicines so I didn't attempt it. That doesn't mean you shouldn't, just use your own judgment. Good luck and God bless.
