Good question Matthew, I had the same problem and I don't believe the doctors that say its only the oils that spread it. Mine started on my neck and has made the rounds all over my body too and its been 3 weeks. I am finally getting relief as it is drying up now but don't understand how it spreads although I do the hot water thingy too so maybe you have something there and I do agree it is the only thing that helps the itch.
