Hi Van Wade-Day. Cool name by the way. Yes, you are correct. Poison ivy is a vine, although I have seen it "curling" on the ground in the back of my property. Poison oak and sumac are more shrub like. I know sumac can grow to be very tall. I found an eight foot tree of it in the back of my property, I thought it was just another tree...boy was I in for a suprise! I live in Michigan by the way. Yes, poison oak and sumac does grow in Louisianna. Be wary, all you can do to protect yourself is knowledge. I hope I was helpful :-)
