I got into something worse than poison ivy 2 months ago (major medical intervention to clear up). I know and avoid poison ivy, so sumac is my next suspect. There is a lot of something that looks like it in my yard, neighbors' yards, but no one can tell me for sure. There are a couple of 25-ft trees nearby too. One neighbor says sumac, another says alanthus. It has: finely-serrated leaves, dagger-shaped, coming out of the smooth stem in a bubly-jointed frond of 7 to 13 leaves in opposing pairs with one on the end. It looks a lot like the "velvet sumac" shown elsewhere on this site, only the stems are smooth. It's the neighboring tree of it which makes me wonder if what I am seeing is really something else...We have lots of rain this past spring, and a very mild summer, so the soil got boggy early on.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Wish the picture upload on this site would work.

Linda, who doesn't like gardening in the yard any more...
