Quick question: Does poison ivy ever grow on branches that have actual (sharp) thorns?

I have some stuff that has the traditional 3 leaves, center longer (all ivy though seems to be like that) but the stalk has sharp thorns like rose bushes.

Also, does poison ivy always have only 3 leaves, or can there be three leaves at the end of a stalk, then two more down the vine?

Thanks
Chris
