I am not an expert, but I have been told after you kill the leaves on top of the ground, you should till the area around the PI or PO, expose the root systems and spray them several times with a potent killer. Then you are to till again after spraying the soil where the root systems were located to make sure the source is dead. I was told it was best to do this during the time of year when you did not want to risk harming any other plants near this site. I have actually hired a landscaping company to remove mine after a 4 year battle with getting PI 2-4 times a year. I am so allergic I am unable to even attempt to remove it myself.
