I have a pair of chamois garden gloves that were kind of pricy which I like a lot. Yesterday I pulled up copious amounts of poison ivy in my yard with them. I thought maybe I should throw them out, but instead I put them in my washing machine where they are currently waiting until I decide their fate. Since they are chamois, they are soft - kind of like skin. I was worried that the urushiol oil could absorb into the chamois. The palms of the gloves were shiny and sticky with the resin from yanking up all that poison ivy. What can I do to ensure that I get all the oil out of them? Would a little bleach, detergent and hot water through a cycle on the washing machine suffice, or is it a lost cause and the gloves should be disgarded. What do you think? |
