I need to remove vines that are strangling my privet hedges. I know that poison ivy is mixed in with the offending vines, because last year, for the first time in my life, I got poison ivy after these pulling vines barehanded and with short sleeves, which I had been doing for years without ever getting infected!
I hear that PVC coated gloves up the elbow are a good protection, as long as you remove them with "dedicated tongs" and don't touch them, then wash your clothes immediately. Can anyone recommend really good gloves (by brand name) and where to buy them? Anybody know other remedies? Anybody know any products which you can put on your arms and hands before contact that really work in preventing poison ivy even if you come in contact with the oil?
I know the best thing to do is avoid it altogether, but I don't want to lose my privet hedge if at all possible.
