I have been reading everything on the Net, since this is my first break out. I have been taking benedryl, and using a calaclear gel, which is Pramoxine HCI an Acetate. From this site I see many positive results with Aveeno bathes, so I just got some. It is an oatmeal powder that you stir into your bath and soak in for about 20 min. This does seem to work, itching is much less for a few hours. Scratching...makes it itch MUCH worse, so don't scratch. ^.^ Hehe, that is hard.
What I never knew was that I would swell up so much and that it would get hot and burn. So, have been taking Ibuprophen for the swelling and pain, not sure if kids can take. But the best thing I've found is ...( since I sat in mine ) sitting on an Icepack. This really numbs and keeps the heat/burning down. It is the best thing for me at least. My huny went out and bought me some of those hotwater bottles my Granny used to put in my bed to keep my feet warm. We freeze these ( only fill half way) and then they stay cold for a long time. Much longer than the gell Icepacks do.
Good Luck!
