The same thing happened to me. I had gotten poison oak just like everyone else for most of my life. One day I noticed I had walked through some posion oak and nervously awaited the rash, but it never came. I grew more and more courageous as I noticed I would not get it even after coming in contact with it. I am not wholly immune but just about so. After bushwacking in the stuff I usually get one or two dots the size of mosquito bites and they hardly itch, and when I do scratch them they stop itching. I don't know if I will ever become "re-allergic" to the stuff but I really enjoy my immunity, even though I still steer clear of it as much a possible just in case constant contact may break my new found immunity. My friends always curse me when they get poison oak rashes after a hike and I don't. |
