After your body sees poison oak either once several times you may develope an immune response to it- then you'll develope the rash. I never contracted poison oak until last week when I was trimming some large vines on our country property, and one of the vines hit my face and cut my lip. I suspect that the uroshiol got directly into my blood and elicited an immune response- my first ever to poison oak or ivy, and I have waded through the stuff many, many times. I'm trying benedryl and prednisilone to dampen the immune response. I tried the homeopathic tablets and calamine lotion for several days and had no improvement.
