I was in the same boat. I had not had a case in the past 10 years. Just got it last weekend rock climbing. I thought I was immune because I used to deal with about 4 cases per summer. Then I stopped getting it. So it seems that I stayed immune for quite some time, because I probably have come in contact with it in that ten year time frame.
