Are you sure it's not something else causing the rash? Atopic dermatitis is not that uncommon in dogs. Nearly every reference I've read about the allergic contact dermatitis caused by contact with urushiol oil (the chemical in poison ivy plants) states that only humans (and one primate whose name escapes me) are susceptible.
