Hi John,
I understand the sentiment but there are issues. I've been pulling poison ivy vines out of my gardens for the last 10 years. RoundUp, Brush-B-Gon, hand pulling, and anything else I could think of short of cementing in all 2 acres hasn't worked completely. BUT (there always is a but isn't there :-)) I feel that I have the situation under control. I always expect to spray some in the spring. I'm always on the prowl and pull roots when possible in the mulched gardens. I was surprised recently to find a little poison ivy sprout in a garden that is mostly rocks that I had weeded just 2 weeks ago. That's the problem. You have to kill the roots and ensure that no animal spreads the plant via seed.
So get the big stuff and pull all the roots you can. You'd have to take off the top several inches of dirt and dispose to ensure eradication of the roots if you go the Bobcat route. Not too practical and not healthy for the yard. Just get a good pump sprayer, RoundUp or Brush-B-Gon concentrate and mix your own solution (I always add a bit of soap to help) and spray on anything you don't want. This helps keeps it under control.
Good luck. |
