I'm with Brian. The tight fabric can help keep the growth under control. Be forewarned though that you will need to spray for weeds as they become impossible to pull (too tight in the mesh).
Poison ivy actually can be fairly easily managed and choked out. I wouldn't consider multiflora rose though as suggested to you (wild rose) as that is really more of a straggler and can be quite invasive. 10 states consider wild rose to be an invasive, noxious weed. Not knowing where you are located its tough to make any recommendations.
One thing you could also do is invest in a good sprayer and buy some Brush-B-Gon, RoundUp or similar herbicide. Mix your own and add a little detergent / soap to the mix (just a few drops will do it). Spray anything that pops up in that area where the plants were removed. That should take care of it. |
