Hi Jason -

Rubbing alcohol is a solvent (and a diluted with water one at that) and is one of the recommended solvents for removing urushiol oil. You've chosen well. Is it possible that you allergic to something else? Perhaps this isn't poison ivy but caused by some other allergen? Something to think about. As for the carpet, I would think that a shampooer should work well. If you don't have one, you can rent them at the local grocery store or other shops. Be sure to use the carpet shampoo (soap) and follow the directions. Carpets hold onto dirt, dust, dander and much much more so regular cleaning is a good idea anyway.
