Notice how the leaf clusters (that have three leaflets) are alternating from side to side on the stem. On non-ivy plants you can, and often do see, more clusters on the side facing sun-up with no fixed pattern. So if you see a plant that has 2, three leaf clusters, growing out of the left side of the stem then one on the right it isn't poison ivy. Hope this helps!
