I can tell you that it is a common belief in natural medicine that the skin is a cleansing organ, just like the lungs and the liver. When you get a rash, or zits, or even an abcess, it is the body trying to eliminate toxins. If you SUPPRESS this process, with for example cortisone, or even diaper rash cream (which seals the area and impairs the skin from cleansing), then the toxins cannot get out of the body, so they stay inside you and cause different problems. It is believed that by "suppressing" a diaper rash in a baby, you may end up with an asthmatic child. Everyone is different, just like some people who smoke will get cancer, and some won't.
