Thank you for the excellent advice. Yes, urushiol oil is fairly stable so it is not that uncommon to get the rash from mulch. I've heard of a few others who got a urushiol oil induced rash from mulch. I'm probably one of those and never really paid attention as I always seem to end up with a rash after serious yard work.

There are a number of ways to get poison ivy that you wouldn't suspect. Another way is at those "cut-your-own" Christmas tree farms. I went to one very popular farm in northern VA. and every tree had a poison ivy vine growing up the trunk. Yikes! I got out of there fast.
