The rash is a delayed response by your immune system to the oil protein cell bond. The rash appears first where the most oil was located. Additional breakouts happen at lesser locations later. Last week I saw a few bumps 9 days after I was working with removing the plants from a large field I maintain. I thought I had dressed appropriately and scrubbed properly but my delayed rash tells me I didn't.

I used some of my favorite poison ivy cleaner and didn't have any further trouble with it.

The oil bonds rather fast to the skin but if you think you might have some residule oil on the sheets I would wash them to be safe.
