Hi Laura,

It may be that part of what you are seeing is hives. Anything that can raise the skin temperature can cause hives. Here's some information on hives:

Remember that the reaction to urushiol oil (the oil in poison ivy , oak, and sumac plants) is an allergic reaction. Some people get rashes which resemble a poison ivy / urushiol oil induced rash from touching other items they are allergic to. So it may be poison ivy or it may be something else. You should think back on what you've contacted over the last several days and consider the possibilities.

Also, the reaction can vary from time to time. So what you consider your "normal reaction" to poison ivy may not be what you are seeing now. You may be more or less sensitive or you may have come in contact with more urushiol oil than usual. There are many factors involved here.

So after that bit of ramble, yes sweating can make the rash worse (but this varies from person to person). Working out is a personal decision based on your personal reactions. If you find that sweating causes more rash, then you might want to consider curtailing the workout.

Will the rash eventually blister? Maybe. Maybe not. Sorry no definitive answer here but that's due to the fact that the reactions and rash vary.
