I wanted to comment about your sister - that's actually not weird. When the urushiol oil bonds with the skin it causes an allergic reaction instigated by the immune system detecting the "foreign substances". Lupus is an autoimmune disorder. The immune system loses the ability to tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. It has been noted in several of the research papers that I've read that people with immune system disorders are less likely if at all to have a reaction to urushiol oil. I'll see if I can dig up some of the better references and I'll post here later.
