The short answer is no - the fluid from the blisters cannot cause spreading of the rash. Here's a link to DiscoveryHealth.com with an article by Lynn West, MD. From the article:
Original sites of contact may continue to break out with blisters over the next several days. Portions of the skin that had the most contact usually react first, followed by areas of skin that had less contact with the plant. This often gives people the impression that the dermatitis is contagious, which it is not.
It's this delayed reaction that confuses most folks. The American Academy of Dermatology pamphlet I believe refers to if there is any remaining urushiol oil on the skin. That would be a problem. If proper clean up has been performed, this is not a likely scenario. |
