Your experience certainly gives new meaning to "Gather Round the Campfire". Sorry - had to say that. I found a reference from the University of Connecticut which mentions that airborne urushiol oil can cause an allergic reaction in the eyes which is likely what you are experiencing. There are a number of sites which mention that burning poison ivy, oak, sumac can cause a reaction in the lungs, eyes, nose, skin, etc. Here are a few of those sites:
We do have a page describing the side effects of steroids which you might want to check out. There is no mention though that I could see of the watery, itching eyes. I think you are experiencing the effects of that burned / airborn urushiol oil. |
