Over the counter things like zanfel will offer temporary relief of the itching (if its a systemic reaction) until the steroids kick in. When you say either of the words
"fire" or "face" ... I would yield to caution and seek professional
advice. I would be worried that you have it systemically.
William Epstein, MD one of the most respected researchers on poison ivy indicates that this is a true medical emergency. Now to calm you down a bit... Stress can make it even worse. Go over to the zanfel site and
see the face testimonial pictures where you can see some time based before and after shots of people with poison ivy on the face.
