Hi Melissa,

Joys it is! That pesky weed seems to pop up everywhere. You should be ok after removal of the vines, leaves, roots, etc. Make sure that you do remove as much of the roots as possible. Look to the Control section on this site for discussion of how to remove and clean up from poison ivy. You should be ok after removal. Urushiol oil will oxidize (ever noticed black spots on the leaves?) and once it does it is rendered harmless. If you're not comfortable after the removal, you could hose down the area or wait for a good rainy day. Water does dilute and remove the urushiol oil.

As for the front loading washer, you should still be ok. Be sure to use a good detergent. To learn how soaps work, click here for an explanation. Soap and water are excellent at getting the oil out.
