I have been dealing with a severe case of poison ivy now for going on four weeks. The rash has had both eyes swollen shut(requiring a trip to the eye doctor). I have been to my family doctor three times now, and all she can say is this is just the worst case of poison ivy she has seen. When the rash clears up from one spot it seems to reoccur in another. The rash is now on my neck, back, stomach, and upper thighs requiring the third visit to my doctor. Who once again prescribed Prednisone(this being round 3) and another steroid shot(this making the total of two)along with steroid cream. There still has been no relief. The rash is coming up unusual. It almost looks like chicken pox, they are coming up in single bumps all over my back and stomach-dr. still insists it is poison ivy. My doctor said that if this last case of treament doesn't work I need to see a dermatologist. Just wondering what they would be able to do that my family dr. hasn't already done. We have tried home remedies,Zanfel, etc. and nothing seems to be helping. The oral steroids seem to help in the beginning, but once I begin to taper off of the medicine the rash seems to return. I am beginning to think that this is going to be a chronic condition with me. I was just wondering if there are any words of advice-feeling very frustrated. |
