Yes you can get urushiol on you from a pets fur. The oil will wash out of the fur with water. Figuring out if he has rubbed against the plant is the hard part! I generally just get the dog to go for a swim if I suspect this. We have had good results with this approach here and I have acres of poison ivy vines for him to find :)

The only preventive measure that I know of is what I do... find the plants
and spray them with round-up.  I do this in areas that my dog likes to play in.  We still are at risk because the fields him and I walk are just
covered with the plants.  What are others doing?
